 | 2009 We are very pleased to share with you this photo of a woman at the Basra Clinic who is walking on a temporary prosthetic supplied by our committee. The medical protocol of putting amputees on temporary prosthetics while waiting for their permanent prosthetics to be built is critical to a successful outcome. Amputees who are wheelchair bound for significant periods of time suffer contraction of muscles, etc and find it very difficult to become upright. The use of temporary prosthetics reduces the amount of time needed for prosthetic physiotherapy. The purchase of the temporary prosthetics was made possible by the very generous funding of the U.S. Department of State. We are truly grateful for their support! |
