Rotary Club of Denver Southeast, Denver, Colorado

Like many Rotarians I have felt deep anguish for the terrible suffering of the Iraqi people. They have known dictatorship, deprivation and the horrors of war for decades. I very much wished to find a way to involve the Rotary Club of Denver Southeast in a humanitarian effort. An internet search brought me to the Basra Project.  I knew immediately that this wonderful endeavor was the perfect opportunity for my Club to join forces with other Rotarians, and my Club's Board greeted my proposal with great enthusiasm and agreed to pay for the shipping of all supplies.

As is so often the case in Rotary, a club member had an important contact--a good friend of his is a leading rehabilitation medicine physician in Denver. This physician introduced me to the manager of one of the three Hanger Prosthetics and Orthotics Labs in Denver. All three managers proved eager to help. They had substantial supplies of devices and support gear in storage which could not be used by their clients. So far we have shipped eight boxes to the Washington, D.C. Club; three more are in the pipeline.

Our next focus will be contacting labs in other cities near Denver.

Enclosed in each box on Club letterhead is the following message:

"FROM THE ROTARY CLUB OF DENVER SOUTHEAST TO THE BRAVE PEOPLE OF BASRA WITH BEST WISHES."
